Developers Ask Questions about API's/Web Services
This discussion thread is for developers to ask other developers about the data sets available at http://sba.gov/api, http://green.sba.gov/api, and http://sbir.gov/api. It could also include any other relevant datsets at http://data.gov.

It looks like the url is http://sbir.gov/apis but it looks like many of the urls listed in the api (i.e. http://green.sba.gov/ek/api/Maine/xml) get a "Page not found".

@Joseph B.
You're right - the URLs are http://sbir.gov/apis and http://green.sba.gov/apis. It's essentially the same page.
For your query, it may be that Maine has no programs in our current program finder. It's in beta, and is probably not exhaustive of the programs across the Federal and State governments.

I have some questions on the JSON format. First off should I be writing this question in this discussion or create a new discussion topic?
The main question is the json output. I was looking at the output of the sample business license and permits api and was confused by the data structures. Each attribute (title, description, url, ...) is its own object in an array that is the site item object. For example from the sample URL http://api.sba.gov/license_permit/state_and_county/child%20care%20services/ca/los%20angeles%20county.json the state_sit_item0 the state_site_item0 is defined as
"state_site_item0": [
{"title": "Obtain Disability Insurance"},
{"description": null},
{"url": "http://www.edd.ca.gov/Disability/"},
{"state": "California"},
{"category": "Employer Requirements"},
{"county": null},
{"business_type": "Insurance Requirements"},
{"section": "Disability Insurance"},
{"resource_group_description": "..."}]
but reading the wikipedia article on JSON at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Json I would expect the JSON to be structured something like
"state_site_item0": {
"title": "Obtain Disability Insurance",
"description": null,
"url": "http://www.edd.ca.gov/Disability/",
"state": "California",
"category": "Employer Requirements",
"county": null,
"business_type": "Insurance Requirements",
"section": "Disability Insurance",
"resource_group_description": "..."
}
where every attribute was a JSON object member instead of an array item.

@ Jospeh B., I'm not in complete control of that particular API/web service. I would try to compare its format to the API's at http://green.sba.gov/apis

I'm launching (no pun intended) my me$$age in a bottle next Sunday, Nov 20 and I would love a link, like, thumbs up...
Whatever it takes to get this moving. I'm giving away money (literally) by burying a bottle, along with a business card and a few lines of inspirational hope. And that's it. And I'm hoping (and marketing the heck out of it) it will spread out and reconnect a disconnected population. And maybe a few businesses will catch onto the idea, too. But the whole concept is to do something free for someone you’ve never met, who will hopefully pay that forward by keeping the bottle moving, and eventually connect us all as it makes its progress.
How far can the bottle travel? I’m hoping somehow it travels across the country. Wouldn’t that be amazing?
So, any help would be wonderful.
Thank you.
Adam
